SHAG is pleased to present Pen Pal: a group show of post-marked artworks by thirty-six artists from across the United States. By utilizing the United States Postal Service as a necessary vehicle for transference, these works also became participants in a larger collaborative effort that pays homage to Fluxus and Mail Art. Artworks are created and added to by worker’s efforts to continuously move information from sender to recipient. Dots, barcodes, stickers, stamps, folds, scuffs, and smears are new material information added to works through repetitive sorting and sending. The effect of these concerted movements is present throughout the gallery in familiar ways. In an effort to prolong this effect, all works will be redistributed to participants of the Pen Pal show upon its closing at the end of December 2020.
